Ozier to be published in ASHRAE Transactions

Hafer's very own Kyle Ozier presented his research at the 2024 ASHRAE Winter Conference in Chicago. And soon, his research will also be published in the journal ASHRAE Transactions. ASHRAE Transactions is the official record of research and technical information of permanent interest and archival value presented at ASHRAE’s Annual and Winter Conferences. The conferences are the world’s foremost forums for the presentation of research and application data and experience in the fields of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, and building technology in general.

The research details a methodology for using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) models to predict wind speeds on the roofs of tall buildings in an urban setting, and then applying the results of that simulation to a power curve to predict wind turbine performance.  It also discusses the various issues and concerns that roof-mounted turbines can cause to buildings, such as vibrations and noise, and how to best counter those problems.

The original full-length paper can be found at this link. The summary length to be published in ASHRAE Transactions will come later this year.
