Rapp Granary
Hafer Associates’ project scope to restore this historic
building included archeological documentation of the historic
site, the historic restoration of original intact elements
and reconstruction of the remainder in order to recreate
the original building. Dating back to the Harmonist period,
the city of New Harmony’s rich history, the building
was in total disrepair and was in danger of being lost.
Through strategies in adaptive reuse, the Granary stands
as a marker of New Harmony’s history while functioning
as a modern conference center that is utilized by the larger
community. Visitors to the building are introduced to the
history of New Harmony through displays and artifacts from
the early settlement.
