Swonder Ice Arena
For this project, Hafer Associates collaborated with Jacobs Facility Group, specialists in ice arenas. There was exceptionally high demand for the existing one-sheet ice rink, but because the rink was deteriorating the city decided to replace it with a new facility offering expanded services. The new Swonder Ice Arena provides two sheets of ice with spectator seating, a fitness center and a skateboard park. The successful design has exceeded expectations and is in use around the clock. Resourceful management of available funds during design allowed bonus features such as theatrical lighting and music and video systems to be incorporated, all of which enhance the use of the facility.
