This 134,000 s.f. building addition represents the second major academic expansion that Hafer Associates designed for the university. It provides specialized laboratory spaces for many science departments as well as general and specialized classrooms. Prominent features include a rooftop greenhouse and a 300-seat auditorium style lecture hall. Interior spaces were developed to accommodate the programmed tasks, but also to be flexible to accommodate change in function or teaching methods, which were stated project goals from the university. Considerations of interior finishes were developed with longevity and ease of maintenance in mind.
